The Office of Research and Evaluation supports excellence in undergraduate education through a
comprehensive program of research and evaluation studies. Reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Education, our primary purpose is to help the Dean, other campus decision-makers, and program administrators make informed decisions about curricula, programs and policies affecting undergraduate education at UCI.
Using a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods, we design and conduct on-going and ad hoc studies to answer specific questions about undergraduate students and undergraduate education at UCI. We monitor demand and enrollment in key and breadth courses, study the impact of new and existing programs, track the academic progress of selected groups of undergraduates, and conduct surveys of students and faculty. We assist with the development and review of proposals for new courses, curricula, and policies related to undergraduate education. We also provide advice and consultation regarding educational research methods, program evaluation, survey development, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
The Office represents UCI on the California Undergraduate Experience Survey (UCUES), a bi-annual survey of the undergraduate experience which is administered to all undergraduates in the UC system.
